When inflation skyrocketed to 54%, anti-government newspapers, media outlets and persons wouldn’t spare our ears and eyes with how bad things had gotten to, thereby calling for the head of the managers of the economy.

Some civil society organizations and their members were up in arms with government over how the economy had deteriorated when inflation went very high.

As for the opposition NDC and their allies, they would hum unmelodious songs and chants to portray the fact that things had gone awry.

People sang dirges and exaggeratedly cried their hearts out over the challenges the economy was facing following the high inflation figure recorded.

The lamentations of some people, the Robb-induced tears and the deliberate gnashing of teeth to signal the hard times we found ourselves in were common.

Many of these people showed a complete disregard for the fact that the hardships we were plunged into were mainly as a result of the deadly coronavirus pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, affecting global economic activities or production, pushing prices of goods to astronomical levels.

Today, inflation has come down to 23.2% from 26.4%. This is something worth noting and commending.

Now that the rate at which prices of goods and services increase has come considerably lower, what songs are these naysayers, professional Jeremiahs and lopsided economists, politicians and critics, singing?

They can pretend to have seen nothing, we shall tell our own stories. Things are getting better, normalcy will soon be within reach and we shall get back into the hearts and minds of the Ghanaian people. The 8 will be broken with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as our presidential candidate.

P.K.Sarpong,

Whispers from the Corridors of the Thinking Place.
