RIVER PRA GALAMSEY : 4 PERSONS ARRESTED, SEVERAL EQUIPMENTS BURNT BY TWIFO ATTI-MORKWA DISTRICT SECURITY COUNCIL

The Twifo Atti-morkwa district security council led by the district chief executive Hon. Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, the district police commander Superintendent Charles Addai Boateng and the district NADMO coordinator Mr. Richmond Addai Marfo has embarked on a swoop on River Pra to protect the only major river that serves thousands of people from the operations of illegal miners.

The taskforce was able to arrest four illegal miners who were mining on the river and also set fire into their operational equipment such as chanfan machines, pumping machines among other aiding items.

Speaking with the media, Hon. Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, the DCE for Twifo Atti-morkwa district said the government is doing its possible part in the fight against illegal mining but a lot more still needed to be done to accomplish the goal by the government on illegal mining.

However, the DCE lamented on the logistical challenges bedeviling the Twifo Atti-morkwa district assembly in the fight against galamsey on river Pra which include lack of live jackets and speed boats to chase out these notorious miners on the river bodies.

He there made a clarion call on all Ghanaians not only those in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district nor the government of the day but all, particularly those who depend on river Pra for survival to come on board in order to succeed in the galamsey battle.

Mr. Richmond Addai Marfo the Twifo Atti-morkwa district NADMO coordinator also attributed most of the perineal flooding that occur in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district to the activities of galamsey which is now taking place along river banks and at the backyards of the residents.
