The attention of the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has been drawn to information on social media concerning the death of a nurse at Walewale. We wish to state that, our Northern Regional Chairman and his team have given a briefing to the National Executive Committee based on some preliminary information they have gathered.

The said nurse by name Salifu Abdulai was a Senior Enrolled Nurse who worked at Walewale Municipal Hospital since 2022.

He is said to have been found at the roadside near a cemetery called “Mooshifong” by a Good Samaritan who took him to the same hospital where he works for treatment. He was transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Many questions remain unanswered but what we have gathered from our Northern Regional team is that the incident neither occurred at the workplace nor at his residence contrary to what is circulating on social media. The circumstances leading to him sustaining the bodily injuries and lying by the roadside require in-depth investigation.

In view of the limited information, we wish to state as follows:

1. The Police should as a matter of urgency investigate the death and bring the perpetrators to book.

2 The nursing staff of Walewale Municipal Hospital and its environs should continue doing their work as expected and continue to live in harmony with the community.

3. We call on the entire nursing and midwifery fraternity of Ghana to remain calm as the Police conduct their investigations and deliver justice for the late Salifu Abdulai.

UNITY IS STRENGTH
