Breast Cancer : Early Detection Saves Lives- Nii Ashittey Ollennu

It has been observed that the month of October is pink international day which has been set aside to mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month has seen a lot of sensitization and education as far as breast cancer awareness is concerned to the general public especially woman.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the aspiring parliamentary candidate for Ledzokuku Constituency, Nii Ashittey Ollennu, reiterated the fact that the motives behind it to organize a Free Breast Screening program for people within the Teshie community and its enclave was to help maximum sensitization to prevent the continuous spread of the Breast Cancer infection spread in Ghana.

He indicated that he has been conducting Breast Cancer research for some time now at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to ensure the prevention of the cancer of the breast to conduct breast cancer surgery for affected patients adding that they also supply Korle bu with logistics and funds to support the said project.

Nii Ashittey Ollennu added that breast Cancer is not a death sentence but rather patients must ensure they undergo for early detection to saves lives hence the need for all, especially women to frequently be involved in breast cancer screening to know their status to avoid unforeseen circumstances that characterised the country for some time now.

On her part, Mrs Susan Tsotsoo Malik, a Breast Cancer survivor and founder of Maud Lokko Breast Cancer Foundation, she explained that the reason behind the collaboration with the Nii Ashittey Ollennu for this laudable initiatives to organise this free breast screening is that there is always an increasing rate of breast cancer cases reported to hence realized it will be prudent for them to enhance the breast cancer sensitization and education in the municipality to reduce the spreading rate of the infection.

She said the exercise had so far screened over 400 women in program and detected some cases, therefore samples have been picked to korle bu for further examination and confirmation to give the necessary health assistance to the affected women to save them from the risk of losing their breasts because breast cancer when detected earlier is preventable.

She urged women to ensure constant breast screening to prevent breast cancer because it is a dangerous ailment that affects most women.

According to her, women must always visit the hospital immediately after suspecting a case of cancer in the breast to avoid future destruction of the breast adding that we must desist from self-breast medication and application of other herbs to the breasts in the name of fighting breast cancer and this will also help in irradicating it from system.
