The full potential of the tourism industry can Rake in about 4.5 million dollars to Ghana
GHANA HAS POTENTIAL TO RAKE IN OVER $ 4.5 MILLION FROM TOURISM.
The Ghana Statistical Service says the government can rake in about 4.5 million dollars if it leverages the full potential of the tourism industry.
The Service explains that the economic viability of the sector can help reduce the high unemployment amongst the youth.
The Government Statistician Professor, Samuel Kobina Annim, was speaking at the launch of the 2023 Domestic and Outbound Survey in Winneba.
He said that giving more attention to the tourism industry had become necessary since it would aid the country to acquire a tourism satellite account which would have the potential of making the tourism sector the number one foreign exchange earner in line with the estimations of the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture.
It also has the potential of creating over 1.4 million direct and indirect jobs in the sector by 2027.
Professor Annim explained that the survey would offer a comprehensive outlook for the Tourism sector to inform policy the government’s policy decisions.
Meanwhile, a professor of Tourism at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Kwaku Boakye underscored the need for stakeholders to commit more investment to the sector to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The service says the survey will last a period of over one year and over two hundred individuals have been trained to collect data for the project.
