The demolished houses were located in water ways disrupting the free flow of rain water and putting lives and properties in danger.

The demolition exercise did not come easy as the taskforce from the Awutu Senya East Municipality and Police who were designated to the area to ensure the smooth running of the exercise faced stiff opposition from some residents whose houses were being demolished.

In all, over 20 houses which were located in water ways were demolished to allow for free access and flow.

Assemblyman for CP Biakoye Electoral Area Daniel Dotse paints a picture of the Asempa down area when it rains and says in time past some children have drowned and others have also had their properties destroyed.

The Winga area also suffers similar problems during the raining season.

Daniel Dotse laments the difficulties in admonishing individuals from building on water ways but says all efforts have been unsuccessful.

Today he feels that the demolition that has taken place will help solve the perennial flooding of the area.

Municipal Engineer for Awutu Senya East Isaac Ofori who led the team to embark on the exercise says more structures would be demolished in the coming weeks.

According to him most of these individuals who build on water ways acquired the land from landguards and this he believes is affecting revenue mobilization of the Assembly since these individuals do not pay property rate and go ahead to put up the structures.
