Posterity will be friendly to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for all the monumental edifices and life-changing policies and programs undertaken under his tenure.
For a right-wing political leader to honour a leftist hero like Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the manner that he has done, Akufo-Addo will be remembered for good reasons.
Though ideologically opposed to the belief systems of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, that difference did not feature in his decision to pull down the old structures at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and rebuilt it into a modern, beautiful and world class edifice.
It is not out of place that people all over the country are praising President Akufo-Addo for this all-important project which is placing the significance of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in our history.
What strikes me is the seemingly deafening silence of those who have always been berating this government for not prioritizing other sectors of the economy including roads, schools, hospitals and provision of potable water but has built this facility in memory of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Strangely, there are no shortages of water in any part of the country, hence, the construction of this magnificent project. All our challenges and problems have been resolved, it may appear so, and that’s why people are not angry with Nana Addo.
Our hypocrisy confounds even Lucifer himself. It is an Nkrumah project and for that matter, it is not seen as a waste of our resources. If it were a National Cathedral, we would have seen dissertations being written by the apostles of protecting our national purse chastising President Akufo-Addo for ‘wasting’ monies on it.
We simply lack principles in this country. It is all about interest. What appeals to a group of people receives their tacit support. A similar situation may not appeal to them and they’d lampoon it. Different strokes for different folks is more like it.
