The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia E. Palmer, has said Ghana handled the Covid situation so well.

She said she was happy that the West African country tackled the pandemic well.

She said this in an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3 Tuesday, July 4 while speaking on the 247th Independence Day celebration in the United States.

Asked about what the relationship between Ghana and the U.S. has been since she arrived in Ghana last year, Madam Palmer said “it is a very close relationship, Ghana is a strong partner of the United States and it is a partnership that we really value.

I see that grow from strength to strength in terms of working together on national security issues, working in the UN Security Council, watching Ghana’s leadership in West Arica to prevent democracy backsliding and as Ghana faces tougher economic times, the United States is standing very strongly with Ghana.

She added “I see particular prosperity and we do the relationship right. We create jobs and prosperity and security in both countries so we work to help Ghana, help West Africa be stable and prosperous, which would result in more jobs and prosperity in the United States, so we are working on inclusive economic growth, particularly in the North and the Ghanaian government is a leader in that, we have spent 140million Dollars a year focused primarily on the North on those issues.”

Regarding the Covid management, she said “I just love it, I am struck watching President Joe Biden’s inauguration and they were still masked. Last year, we had pulled down the July 4 party because of Covid, so I am so happy that Ghana has managed Covid so well, that partnership is strong and I am happy to be able to celebrate with our friends this year.”
