The Hepatitis Alliance of Ghana, an NGO partnered the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Greater Accra (GRNMA-GAR) to organize the 3rd Hepatitis Summit which was a 2 day summit from 30th -31st May, 2023 at the Center for Biodiversity Conservation Research at the University of Ghana.
Various topics were discussed ranging from Hepatitis B and hepatitis C as Dr. Adwoa Agyei-Nkansah, a physician consultant at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital took the floor to explain the complexities about Hepatitis C to the participants.
The Greater Accra GRNMA chairperson, Mr. Prince Opuni Frimpong in his address gave statistics on the prevalence of Hepatitis B and also urged all to come together to help eliminate Hepatitis as it is possible.
Other speakers took turn to share more insights into the topic.
The event was also live on zoom concurrently with on site participants drawn from the Health facilities, GRNMA administrative Districts and institutions.
The summit was with exciting moments and awards.
Three midwives from the Ahafo, Greater Accra, and Eastern regions were presented with awards for ensuring that mothers with hepatitis B they nursed did not pass on the infection to their newborns.
