The Greater Accra Regional Security Council has pledged in the interim to provide a canoe fitted with safety equipment for the transportation of school children from the Faanaa community following the drowning of 9 pupils in an accident.

The council has further constituted a committee to determine the suitability or otherwise of inhabiting the village affected.

These were made known during the visit of the Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey to the devasted community.

The committee according to the Greater Accra regional minister, Henry Quartey would within two weeks would have to produce a report for the appropriate action to be taken. The conclusions would inform the government on the interventions to occasion at the Faana community which currently is deprived of social amenities.

Visiting the community following the tragic disaster that led to the death of nine pupils , the minister announced that REGSEC has henceforth prohibited the operation of canoes by persons under the age of 18 in the area.

The minister pledged the provision of a canoe with an outboard motor and life jackets which will solely be used to convey school children to and from school.

He says once those interventions are made it shall become illegal for any person to ride in a canoe without a life jacket.
