Our Nurses and Midwives, Our Future -GRNMA.

The President of the GRNMA Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo has stated that the challenges facing Nursing and Midwifery must be looked at as today marks the International Nurses Day.

She stated, ” we do contribute immensely to the economies of the world”as she championed the roles played by Nurses and Midwives in Ghana and beyond.

On Conditions of Service, the President stated that ” We have issues with the implementation of the provisions of the document “.

On logistical challenges, the continuous use of “obsolete systems in caring for patients put all of us in danger including patients”.

Speaking on work environment, Preventive Nurses continue to work in dilapidated structures at remote places and communities to help give health to communities”, she stated.

On allowances for Trainees and National Service Nurses, payment of their Trainee allowances has been in arrears for some months.

On health of Nurses and Midwives, the President called on Government to take that bold decision to initiate steps to establish Medical Insurance to help support Nurses and Midwives in times of infirmity that goes beyond the coverage of the NHIS.

On Brain-drain, she stated that close to 9,000 Nurses and Midwives have left the shores of Ghana for greener pastures.

She therefore urged Government to do what is expected to retain health professionals in the Country.

The President ,finally appealed to Government to take necessary steps to invest in Nurses and Midwives and put a stop to the training of Certificate programmes at the Health Training institutions.
