The body of the last victim who drowned in the estuary between Wiaboman and Faana has been retrieved, bringing the number of total deaths to nine out of twelve who were on the boat.

The body of the last victim who drowned in the estuary between Wiaboman and Faana has been retrieved, bringing the number of total deaths to nine out of twelve who were on the boat.

Some residents however are advocating for a possible diversion of the estuary to prevent future occurances.

Residents of Wiaboman were in a state of shock after the news of the drowning of some school children who were returning from school late yesterday.

Rescue efforts from the community led to eight of the bodies being retrieved in the late hours of wednesday night.

On Thursday afternoon, the ninth victim was rescued after community members from Wiaboman and Faana embarked on a search mission.

Thirteen year old Enyonam Ekpa was one of three survivors of the incident, and she gives us an account of what happened on the day.

Fortune Amenume lost two of her children to the disaster.For her the bad memories of this disaster will forever remain with her.

Residents of both communities who were part of the rescue operation shared their taught on the matter and the difficulties associated with crossing from one community to the other.

Assemblyman for Faana electroral area Dan Bright Abayetey is not happy with how rescue agencies like NADOM attended to the disasters.

He says there was no sense of urgency in dealing with the disaster.

The Wiaboman and Faana communities falls within two different Municipalites, the Weija Gbawe and the Ga South Municipalities. But, the MCE for GA South Joseph Nyani says the assembly will access the situation and map out a strategy to deal with it.
