Piesie Esther campaigners got the script wrong -P.K Sarpong.

The campaigners for Piesie Esther got the script wrong from the get-go. They failed to realize some key points as they embarked on their marketing campaign.

Piesie, without a doubt, composed a song that is pleasant to the ears, a song that many would fall in love with after listening to it. It is a song for the oppressed and afflicted.

They failed to send the right message out there. Instead of convincing us to vote for her because she had done a great job, they decided to appeal to our religious sentiments.

They asked us to vote for her because she is a gospel artiste and not because she has done a great job in the year under review.

One could easily decipher that they knew she hadn’t done enough to win the ultimate but wanted us to support her because she is from the gospel fraternity.

Along the line, those of us rooting for Black Sherif were seen as devil’s incarnates, people who do not want the gospel of Christ to reach millions out there.

These were the issues they failed to see and address. They set out to woo us to support Piesie not because she did something more exceptional than her peers in that category but because she belongs to the gospel community.

That’s a poor marketing strategy. Any objective-minded person would realize that though her song was awesome, it wasn’t enough to win over Black Sherif’s numerous bangers.

If we believed that her work was better than Blacko, we would have supported her. We supported Diana Hamilton when we believed she had done an excellent job in 2021.

Folks, we are not against promoters of the gospel or musicians who sing gospel songs. We just want to enjoy good music irrespective of the genre. We believed Blacko is the best and it showed at the awards.

Pound for pound, take Blacko’s album and compare his songs with that of Piesie. Piesie has just a single great song but Blacko boasts of four or five wonderful songs. How did you people expect us to ignore these obvious facts and vote according to your preference?

I am not loyal to Blacko. I am loyal to good artistic work no matter who is behind such a composition. In the year under review, Blacko was unmatched and that’s how come he won the ultimate award of Artiste of the Year.

P.K. Sarpong,
