UPDATE: mcOnline shows an access road to Roman Hill waste site.

mcOnline, for the second time visited Roman Hill, a suburb of Elmina to ascertain whether there is access road to the waste site as reported to help in the clearing of the waste.

This is an update to the KEEA MCE’s response that access to the waste site for the purpose of clearing the waste is non-existent.

mcOnline has established with aerial view video evidence that there is access road to the site and all that is needed is a political will to sanitize the Roman hill.

Esukesedo waste discovery by mcOnline

In a related development, mcOnline visited Esukesedo, a nearby community to Roman Hill, and discovered another huge heap of waste over there, which, according to residents, pose health challenges to them.

Additionally, mcOnline discovered that there were salt ponds near the waste.

The waste papers and polythenes invade the ponds and have caused the owner of the ponds to abandon those ponds closer to the waste, causing a potential financial loss.

Aerial view of Esukesedo, especially where the salt ponds are located, shows a wonderful scenery that needs to be protected.

Certainly, the location of the waste is a threat to water bodies as well as harvesting of salt in the enclave .

The Children of Esukesedo need a good Environment.

An Environment free from biological threats to help them achieve their development potentials.

BACKGROUND

mcOnline, on 12th April 2023, reported that in no time, the rains will set in, and indications are that we are going to witness massive cloudbursts considering what is currently happening all over the globe.

mcOnline, as part of its work, has been touring the Central Region to ascertain the level of preparedness as we await the rains and related triggers of water-borne diseases .

mcOnline visited Roman Hill, a suburb of Elmina in the KEEA District of the Central Region of Ghana, and saw for itself massive waste .

It’s a real sanitation time-bomb.

Already , the Covid-19 pandemic has overstretched the health systems in the country, and any outbreak of infection such as cholera during the upcoming rainy season would be very disastrous for the Health Service system of the Country.

mcOnline’s visit revealed that there are still those who engage in open defecation at the time of visit, and as such Local Authorities must put measures in place to getting this social ill under control or better still eradicated.

A lot more needs to be done in terms of behaviour change communication in helping deal with sanitation issues.

Good sanitation anywhere is a good sanitation everywhere.

Issues of sanitation are National in Outlook, and they border on National Security as well .

Your District could be the next destination .

See something. Say something.

mcOnline hopes that the clearing of the waste would be given attention before the rains start.
