Aggrieved Chiefs of twelve communities in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of central region who are furious about the rapid dominance of illegal mining activities in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district have jointly involved the wrath of the gods to deal ruthless with the NDC chairman of Upper Denkyera East constituency Mr. Swanzy Arhin and any government official in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district who has hand in the devastating galamsey activities taking place in the district.

According to the spokesperson of these upset anti-galamsey chiefs, Nana Kwame Baduo Ababio who is also the Twifo Werempimhene, the Upper Denkyera constituency chairman for NDC Mr. Swanzy Arhin led a mining company called BENVICO Ltd to the chiefs of Twifo Wamaso and 11 other communities with prospecting license signed by Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor, minister of lands and natural resources that they were coming to do mining prospecting in the area.

Before the chiefs and the people realized, Mr. Swanzy Arhin, the NDC chairman and his BENVICO company have destroyed about 50 acres of cultivated farmlands owned by over 500 farmers with galamsey activities.

Again, they have also destroyed the only major river in the area, river “Bunu” which serves as the only source of drinking water to about 20,000 residents in the twelve communities.

The most highly galamsey devastated community are: Twifo Mintaso, Kotokye, Ayaase, Bimponagya, Mampong and Mokwaa.

The situation has brought serious livelihood problems to the people because they have lost all their farms and get no water to drink.

Some of the residents of the twelve affected communities who lost their farms and do not get any quality water to drink also shared their displeasure about the escalating galamsey menace in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district.
