WASSA EAST: CHIEFS PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE TO PREVENT THEIR PEOPLE FROM VOTING IN 2024 IF GOVERNMENT FAILS TO CONSTRUCT THEIR BAD ROADS FOR THEM
The chiefs at Sekyere Obuase, Atwebasa, Abaasa and Anto all in the Wassa East district of western region have expressed bitterness about the beyond maintenance nature of their roads in the area.
The above mentioned communities are the major producers of cocoa, cassava, plantain and vegetables in the Wassa East district but the poorest roads in the district can be traced to their end.
The chief of Sekyere Obuase Nana Yaw samfoh III who spoke on behalf of the agitated chiefs mentioned that, in the year 2021 the Wassa East district assembly brought them a letter indicating that the government was going to construct their roads. The contractor even visited the affected communities to heighten the hope of the people. It is almost three years, the contractor has never returned to site.
According to Nana Yaw samfoh III, their investigations revealed that, government has not paid the contractor that is why he has abandoned the work on the road.
Nana stated without any fear or favour that, if the government fails to pay the contractor to return to site, the chiefs swear with their lives, they would not allow any of their people to vote in 2024.

Nana Yaw samfoh III also bemoaned that, a newly trained teacher who was posted to teach in the area who went with his pregnant wife lost his wife due to the poor state of the road when she was in labour and was being carried on human heads to the next town to board a vehicle to a health facility for delivery.
