Hypocrisy, I would always say, is our bane as a country. The Animal Farm kind of treatment in this land can sometimes be nauseating.

It is heartrending that when the NPP is in the news for the wrong reasons, there appears to be a groundswell of people lambasting us. Let a similar incident happen in the NDC, these same holier-than-thou critics go into a hiatus of a sort.

Some party members invaded a television program and many people erupted like volcanoes, expressing their disgust and anger about it.

The GJA, Media Foundation for West Africa, Media practitioners, civil society organizations and several other groups came upon the NPP, with their guns blazing, and censored the party, leading to the leadership of the party apologizing for what happened.

The GJA went berserk with its press statement as it went on an attacking spree on some key persons who had no hand in whatever might have happened on UTV.

A journalist of Citi TV and Citi FM, Akosua Otchere, was on Friday, October 13, 2023, attacked while covering the vetting of the parliamentary candidate hopefuls of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodio constituency in Accra.

Ms. Otchere was attacked by some NDC thugs, who twisted her hand and snatched her phone. This unfortunate event got talked about only on Citi FM and TV, and not on other platforms.

The GJA has so far been quiet on this latest violent incident on the journalist. The Media Foundation for West Africa is asleep. All those civil society organizations who suddenly woke up from their slumbers when the NPP was in the news have all gone back to sleep now.

When it came from the NPP, the media was under siege, but when it has come from the NDC, the media is not under any attack and that freedom of speech and expression cannot be said to be under threat. The media is not being gagged because this has come from the NDC!

Trust me, this incident will never get discussed on television and radio shows today. It is dead on arrival. The NPP is not a political organization enough, and, therefore, can be trampled upon by these tingods of media practitioners. It is sad!

P.K.Sarpong,

Whispers from the Corridors of the Thinking Place.
