(Episode Nine)
P.K.Sarpong (Whispers).
“You are avoiding me, George. What have I done to you?”
“Daphne, you know why. After what happened at your house with your husband-to-be, I thought it was just right that I gave you space to right things with him”.
“There is nothing to right with him. He has no reason to feel insecure about anything. Besides, this whole marriage thing is not my thing. My parents and his parents plotted this. I am only playing along. I can’t marry such a guy!” Daphne said, irritated.
“If you are not okay with it, why has it taken you this long to explain things to your parents?”
“George, I have lost counts of the number of times I have had this discussion with my parents but all to no avail. My father threatened to disown me if I ended my relationship with Louis” she explained.
George advised her. “Then I advise that you tune your mind to it in order to make things work between you two. That’s the only way”
“That is not the only way. There is always a way out when there seems to be no way out” Daphne replied.
George asked her, “What other ways can you explore to get out of this situation?”
Daphne stared at him for some seconds before responding.
“How about me getting pregnant for someone else? They can’t throw me out if I do that”
“You are crazy” he said and they both burst into laughter at the same time.
He continued, “On a more serious note, I don’t think that is the best idea. How do you plan on doing this? Don’t you think it would be better to stick to the family agenda than to go out there look for another stranger? Louis can change, you know”.
What she said shocked him. “How about you being that person, that stranger who would impregnate me so that this whole madness is brought to an end?”
“I can’t do that. You know why. Was it not a few days ago that I pledged to your mother I am no threat to your family? I am a man of my words. Besides, how well do you know me? Kindly go with their suggestion” George pleaded with her.
“All I want you to do is to give this idea a thought, please, George. I know it may sound strange looking at a lot of factors but this is the only way” she pleaded with him.
Before George could say anything, Daphne planted a kiss on his lips. George looked stunned….
