Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba has been deposed by some military officers in the country, sending rhapsodic joy down the spines of the populace.
For over 50 years, his family has been occupying the seat of government with no intention of relinquishing power to others to continue ruling.
Niger witnessed a tumultuous period of a regime overthrow which has prompted ECOWAS to consider intervening militarily. The dethroned leader changed the country’s constitution to perpetuate his stay in office.
Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea Bissau have all witnessed military takeovers because of similar circumstances.
Paul Biya of Cameroon is 90 years and has been ruling since 1975. Should there be a military takeover tomorrow, it’d meet the happy agreements of the good people of Cameroon.
We have chastised all these leaders and continue to chasten those still i
n place for their continued stay in power. However, we tend to have deliberately looked the other side when it comes to one leader.
Paul Kagame has been Rwandan’s President since April 2000. For 23 years, this man has been Rwanda’s President and people are not talking about it.
Paul Kagame maybe doing a lot developing his country but the fact still remains that the country’s democratic system is a sham.
We should continue advocating the need for these African leaders to exit the scenes but we should add Paul Kagame to this list. He is no better than Ali Bongo or Paul Biya of Cameroon.
Paul Kagame is a younger version of Paul Biya or Ali Bongo. Let us condemn him as well so that true democratic principles can engulf Rwanda.
